“DANCE ABILITIES” ADAPTIVE DANCE PROGRAM

At NFDC, we believe that dance should be accessible to all. That is why we are excited to announce that Dance Abilities is now a FREE class for dancers to join.*

WHAT IS IT?

Dance Abilities is an adaptive dance program at Northern Force Dance Company. Our DA mission is to provide an inclusive opportunity for individuals with special needs to participate in the joys of the performing arts through dance education. Designed for students with Down syndrome, Autism and other developmental and physical disabilities, our classes provide a great way for children with special needs to improve motor skills, confidence and socialization.

WHAT DO WE DO?

During these once-a-week classes, students will learn various types of dance in an encouraging environment. We hope that through this program, dancers will gain confidence, improve coordination, movement skills, and social skills. Dancers will explore movement through styles of dance such as ballet and jazz. Dancers will also have the opportunity to be able to participate and perform in our end of year recitals as well as a regional competition event.  This class is taught by a dance instructor, who is also a licensed educator, with years of experience working with kids with disabilities in the studio setting.  It is also staffed with a number of “mentor” dancers from NFDC.
